Behind the Frame | One Light Dramatic Portraits

I always love creating with Angelina Lopez of Velour Events in Nashville! After our staff headshots and branding session, she had some wedding dresses on loan from OZ Bridal and we said 'I Do' to photographing her in them. Velour's office is located in an old building with shared spaces. While making our way down the hall, I came across this framed booth created by Overton Arts. It provided the perfect backdrop for the dress and gave us a modern twist on an old-world painted portrait.

My lighting for this was super simple! I used a single strobe modified with a large silver umbrella and diffusion fabric. The light was soft, even, and the silver interior of the umbrella gave a little bit more of a pop than you would find with a typical white-lined umbrella. I feathered the light off of Angelina to give the image more depth and play with the light and shadows.
