Portrait Session with Tressie McMillan Cottom

Sometimes you get to work on projects that truly leave you better than when you started. ? Tressie McMillan Cottom is one of the most beautiful souls I've ever had the pleasure of photographing and spending the day together, in November of 2021, capturing such a stunning woman, both inside and out, literally left me in tears ... in the best way! Tressie and her team had reached out to me, to have some portraits done while she was here in Nashville interviewing a collective group of musicians on the topic of how integration changed country music. The stories from these musicians, and from Tressie herself, truly moved me. You can read the article HERE.

BEHIND THE SCENES SETUP

It was such a pleasure to work with Tressie and her team. For the majority of the images, my lighting was very simple. I used a single strobe modified with a large silver umbrella and diffusion fabric. The light was soft, even, and the silver interior of the umbrella gave a little bit more of a pop than you would find with a typical white-lined umbrella.

GEAR USED:
Canon R5
Canon 24-70
Canon 70-200
Kupo Click Stand
Impact Umbrella + Diffusion for Umbrella
MagMod 24" Octabox
MoneyMaker Dual Camera Strap
