You Can Take Old Hollywood Glam Portraits Anywhere

Doing test shoots are a great way to work through new concepts, or lighting setups, without having the pressure of being on a time-sensitive paid shoot. Test shoots also help you stay fresh and add some personal projects to your portfolio. One of the looks that I did during my shoot with Kasanna was inspired by simple old Hollywood glamor portraits, but with a modern vibe.

Keeping things simple, I used a single strobe modified with a small diffused Octabox along with a very helpful assistant holding up the white side of a 5-in-1 reflector. My light was placed camera left with the bottom of the Octabox aligned with the top of my model's head and positioned slightly forward for the light to be feathered and create a softer look. Using the white side of the reflector added just enough bounce to fill in the shadows and provide more detail on the model's right side. The hand-painted backdrop from Savage Seamless also added a touch of elegance and texture.
